In a thrilling finale at the Curragh, Los Angeles, ridden by Ryan Moore, clinched victory in the Irish Derby, marking trainer Aidan O’Brien’s record-extending 16th triumph in the prestigious race.
Los Angeles crossed the finish line three-quarters of a length ahead of Sunway, who secured second place, and a further half-length in front of the 6-4 favorite, Ambiente Friendly. This victory comes after Los Angeles finished third in the Derby at Epsom, where stablemate City Of Troy took the win and Ambiente Friendly was the runner-up.
Despite facing stiff competition, Los Angeles, at odds of 13-8, powered through in the home straight, overcoming the challenge posed by Ambiente Friendly. Sunway, another British-trained contender, stayed on strong to claim second place.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien expressed his optimism about Los Angeles’s future, stating, “We think he’ll get better. He’s a big, hardy horse.”
Los Angeles’s performance at the Curragh cements its status as a rising star in horse racing, and with O’Brien’s confidence in further improvement, the future looks promising for this impressive colt.
