A second shot at happily ever after wasn’t in the stars for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. According to TMZ, Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, marking the two-year anniversary of their lavish Georgia wedding.
Court documents reveal the Hollywood power couple has been separated since April, TMZ reports. This marks the end of yet another chapter in their tumultuous love story, one that initially captivated fans and media in the early 2000s when the pair, dubbed “Bennifer,” became an iconic tabloid sensation.
The duo first met on the set of the critically panned film Gigli, igniting a whirlwind romance that led to an engagement but ultimately ended in a high-profile split in 2004. Following their breakup, Lopez went on to marry Latin music star Marc Anthony, while Affleck wed actress Jennifer Garner.
Their rekindled romance in 2021, after Lopez’s split from Alex Rodriguez, once again sparked global attention. However, rumors of trouble have swirled in recent months, with TMZ reporting that the couple had stopped communicating entirely.
In the divorce filing, Lopez reportedly waived spousal support and asked the judge to do the same for Affleck. With no children together, custody battles won’t be a factor in this split, though both have children from previous marriages.
This marks Lopez’s fourth divorce and Affleck’s second, closing the curtain on what many hoped would be a fairytale reunion.
